This 19-page manual for physicians has 15 sections that detail the equipment and materials needed, physician-patient communications, and step-by-step instructions for performing a FNA of the thyroid.

Dr. Oertel is Director of the Fine Needle Aspiration Service at the Washington Hospital Center in Washington, DC. She has been performing FNAs for more than 30 years. She has trained numerous other cytopathologists. She is a medical advisor of ThyCa: Thyroid Cancer Survivors’ Association, Inc.
