Yolanda Oertel, M.D., to Speak at Northern Virginia Thyroid Cancer Support Group Meeting

Yolanda Oertel, M.D., pathologist at the Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C., will speak and answer questions about thyroid cancer
diagnosis on Saturday, January 5 from 10:30 a.m. to noon at the ThyCa Northern Virginia support group meeting of thyroid cancer survivors and
families.

The meeting takes place at Inova Health System’s Life with Cancer Family Center, 2832 Juniper Street, Merrifield, Va., located just off Lee Highway near the Beltway Route 495.

The lecture is free and open to people at all stages of testing and treatment for thyroid cancer, as well as their families, friends, and caregivers.

Dr. Oertel is Director of the Fine Needle Aspiration Service at the Cancer Institute at the Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C. She has been performing fine needle aspirations (FNAs) of palpable masses for 26 years, with the last 4 years dedicated exclusively to FNAs mostly of thyroid lesions.

Dr. Oertel is a member of the Medical Advisory Council of ThyCa: Thyroid Cancer Survivors’ Association. ThyCa, a nonprofit, 501(c) (3) organization, provides support services and resources, free of charge, to thyroid cancer survivors and their families.
